Female Science Talents Gathering 2021 | Role Model Talk with Helga Nowotny

Explore the realm of 'Female Leadership in Science, Business, and Society' as the Falling Walls Foundation and Bayer Foundation united for a remarkable networking event in July 2021. The Female Science Talents Gathering provided participants with discussion formats designed to foster insightful connections with exceptional female leaders and scientists.

We were honored to host Helga Nowotny, Professor Emerita at ETH Zürich and former President of the European Research Council, for our role model talk. This illuminating session was also live-streamed on YouTube, allowing a broader audience to benefit from Helga's wisdom. With nearly 60 years of experience, Helga provided a deep dive into the nuances of female leadership, sharing invaluable insights on overcoming challenges.

During the 30-minute talk with German journalist Louisa Reichstetter, followed by an engaging 30-minute Q&A with our talents, Helga shared fascinating details from her extraordinary career. From her move to New York in the 1960s to co-founding the European Research Council in 2007, she provided a firsthand account of her journey. Reflecting on her achievements, Helga discussed inclusivity in research, the role of masculinity in science, and the intersection of female leadership and family. Her enduring spirit is attributed to "curiosity, persistence, and passion."
