I am 160cm and my start weight was 62kg. I have been eating 1200cals for 6 months and so long I have lost 7 kg, so I am down to 55kg. I have tried so many diets but this is the only thing that worked for me. You are not restricted from any food groups, you can eat anything as long as it fits in your calorie goals. And as long as you eat the correct foods you won't feel hungry.
Even when I had vacations and I allowed myself to eat more, I kept the weight off and it wasn't hard to go into the diet again afterwards.
The moment I reach my goal weight that is 51kg, I will start reverse dieting and increase my food to 1600cal which is my maintainance. Best decision ever.

I try to stick to 1200 calories on regular days, with 1 or 2 higher calorie days every 2 weeks when i am off work and going out with friends, on those days i enjoy myself and i eat what i want within reason. I also keep it semi low carb and low fat on the 1200 calorie days. I also eat 2 meals per day and a snack before bed. Usually something sweet like sugar free pudding or halo icecream. For breakfast i eat an egg with turkey bacon and wheat toast with a light greek yogurt and fruit like cantaloupe, or peanut butter toast with fruit, and dinner is usually lean protein like fish or boneless skinless chicken breast with low carb and low calorie veggies like asparagus, greenbeans, broccoli, salad with fat free dressing. And im not hungry

I count calories by the week as I find that some days I have a larger appetite than others. It all balances out by the end of the week. I also fast and eat once a day, a nice filling meal. I cut out most junk food which was so hard at first but the cravings go away. I’m down 110 pounds. Everyone has a method that works for them and I found mine. Good luck all on your journey!

TRUTH. Listen to Lucy. My metabolism has adapted to this now :-( so I'm stuck, 11 stone and yet permanently on 1200. Although I'm only 5'1 and quite sedentary, so don't need 1700 calories!! but................ at the moment, although I'm almost in the 'obese' band, I'm only eating 1200 cals per day and not processed food, healthy choices.. I'm aiming to push up my cals with reverse dieting. I did it too quickly though and weighed myself this morning and the weight I was maintaining has gone up, not much but eeeeek so scared now. I have to slow it down. I had added 40 calories and I was on 1240 last week. My body has seen that as weight gain. I'm really stuck now. 11 stone forever.?? no, ha, 11 stone 1 😞

my limits are cutting foods I grew up eating in Brazil. I tried keto several times, and most of the time, I would mess up near the evening. or do partial keto, low carb. my record was in 2013: 7 days on keto, and I lost 7lb. then I had to eat normal food. I need a mild balanced diet that counts calories and not fat and protein. something I can do for the rest of my life. food portion is easier when diet does punish you. to my culture, it's a severe punishment to eat fats only. I went to Italy to study, and in 10 days, I lost so many pounds eating carbs only and barely any protein. Here in the United States, it is so hard to lose weight.

When I use a TDEE calculator I'm told my maintenance calories are 1600 per day and my BMR around 1400 and that to lose 1lb per week I need to cut to 1100 calories per day. I'm 5'6". I'm currently 10stone 6 (146lbs) and feel healthier around 9 stone (126 lbs). I can't fit exercise or much walking into my schedule. I watched videos pointing out how low even a 1500 calorie diet is but having listened to them and consistently kept my intake no lower than 1500 calories per day for almost 4 weeks now, I've found I've lost no weight (or inches) AT ALL. So going by the TDEE calculator, it seems like someone who isn't in a position to burn calories through exercise DOES need to reduce calories to something like 1100 or 1200 per day???

This all depends on height, I am 159 cm, my maintenance calorie count is 1600, to lose wight I need 1200 cal and I don't feel very hungry on it because I am in fact short.

1200 cal is less than 2 lbs of actual body mass lost per week (not counting water weight in the beginning of course)

When you’re busy (kids, career, family get together, etc.) it’s difficult to eat right. I would argue that in the days you can control, 1200 is optimal because there will be plenty of days that you can’t.

In your opinion what calorie goal for weight loss would be ideal for a mum nursing a 2.5 year old. He is so booby it’s annoying he eats a lot but I am confused as to whether it even means I need more while losing.

I get heart palpitations if i skip meals now. There is a reason most why responsible places talking about low calorie deficit tell you to do so under doctors supervision. Just be careful and kind to yourself.

I allow myself up to 1600 a day, but often only use just over 1200. I eat like 5 eggs a day, beans, and dairy so I get a good amount of protein which keeps me full. Min of 35 percent protein daily and its doable without starving. Sure, I have my days where I eat more than 1600 but I dont feel the need to gorge.

I'm 5'7" fem, 1200 Calories has brought me from 200 to 157. I started college and gained 7 pounds but I'm already back at 160 and aiming for 145. I track daily with weight training. In my humble opinion, this diet is a viable option, as the mid game feels breezy and you get use to it, but it is not good long term. I've done it twice now; The first time I stopped was because after 3 months, I had seen great results but I was having the worst dizzy spells and some weakness when I would stand up or sometimes just be standing. One morning I woke up, walked into the kitchen and began to make my breakfast only to have the first and only near-full blackout of my life. I remember the total panick and loss of control I felt. I don't think it was just the normal dizzy spells you get from normally standing up and I honestly never got those before I started the my diet. I do eat all my calories and my workout calories. Even still, I'm on my second attempt now. I plan on doing it short term, till I am 145 which at the rate I am losing weight, I will be around Jul 23. I am gonna be more mindful of my limits and try to work better to see if it's my nutrition at fault. Tbh I'm not sure why I commented this but if it helps anyone in their dieting experience, especially with choosing your type of diet, I hope so. If people are interested in updates, I might provide.

The thing is slow and steady is so hard when you don't see results. What's the point of being hungry, tired and miserable if I barely lose any weight? It's so demotivating, I don't know how to change my mindset. I always want to push things to extreme. Like, yeah, I'll be even more hungry and miserable than now, but at least I'll see results.

I just started my 1200 cal diet, im a week in, its really not that hard I use myfitnesspal to track everything I do, im just watching what I put in and treaching myself how to shop being more active just moving. Its great for me 👍🏾

Metabolic adaption is when ur body burns less calories because you're thinner, I used to burn 1700 calories and now I burn 1400 calories because I lost weight

I have no idea how people do one meal a day my blood sugar would drop and I would be fainting all day 😅 really low calorie diets have always amazed me, the fact that some people can physically do them 😅

I’ve been doing 1200 cal for almost 3 months. I’ve lost about 11 or 12 pounds. I am not hungry, and if you prepare and plan, you can find healthy swaps for most everything you crave. You can actually have quite a bit of food and protein if you do a lot of non-processed foods.

The crazy thing is, to me 1200 a day seems like a lot. I’ve struggled with a restrictive ed for years and 1200 is more then I’m used to when I’m not off the rails, I know I’ve messed up my metabolism pretty bad and I feel almost like I well gain weight if I eat even 1000 cals, I really wish I would’ve just started with a healthy deficit, like 1500 cals 😢 trying to lose weight as fast as possible is awful for you in the long run, you’ll never truly lose the weight. it will come back eventually.

My BMI is currently 32+ (which is quite obsessed) and I'm panicking that if I don't lose weight as quickly as possible there will be serious health issues. I hope to be on a 1200-calorie diet for maybe a month to see if I can lose at least 5-10lbs and feel slightly healthier. But I think you are right about the unsustainability of a 1200-calorie diet because this is my fifth day and I am already starting to feel dizzy sometimes and I find it hard to fall asleep at night. I don't know if it's related. But I'll keep doing it until I lose about 5-10 lbs.

A few month ago i was 76 kg and i changed my diet to 1000 calorie a day or maybe 700 some days "" yes i know i was killing myself" but although i didn't realise that i felt tired some days ofcourse but i kept doing that thinking its okay and i'm a girl i can still survive in this amount of calories and with that i was doing workout every single day for about an hour and moving a lot
Yes i lost weight two weeks ago i was 62 kg and yes this is a complishment until you know i lost my period and my hair is falling my mental and pyshical health really horrible and i crave for suger most of the day when i see it i start binge eating and now i'm 66 and feel lost
Please girls don't do that to you i regret it

This is the best diet for me because you get to actually eat food, it's healthy and after the first few days you don't feel hungry. Losing weight is not easy or fun, so I'm not gonna say it's not hard, but I have tried many diets and this is the one that works best for me. The fact that you actually get to chew is a massive plus, compared to those shake diets that really feel depriving.

You can have 2-3 protein shakes a day (180 calories & 20g - 30g protein per shake, ~500 calories from that ) , lean protein (~400-500 calorie) & vegetables and fruit (~200 calories). Its not that hard. But how would you feel hungry with that much protein & fiber ?

I eat 1200 calories a day for 6 Mos and worked out lost 50 lbs and kept it off for 6 years. I have gotten bigger because I had a baby but I am going back to my 1200 calories

What about our hormones. Weight loss does have to do with a calorie deficit true but insulin resistants is why we gain weight . Our hormones drive weight loss and weight gain. Calories play a very small part.

Hmm I don't agree. I keep my calories for evening so I can sleep. I find the quicker weight loss motivation enough to stay on track the slower one makes me give up. The starvation mode thing has been proved not to be true as well.. your metabolism will slow as your weight reduces whether you do it quickly or not. I eat high fibre, high protein meals that keep me full a avoid muscle loss. I also take a pre- workout with before I exercise so I have no issues with exercise performance. I think weight loss is different for everyone.. Its important not to tell people what is best for them.

I have managed to lose 5 pounds in 26 days so far with the 1200 calorie diet. I walked myself down starting from 1400 calories a day. Switching to mainly whole foods and whole dairy and exercising at least 3 days a week is what’s given me the success.

For reference I used to eat well over 2000 calories in highly processed foods each day, and didn’t really exercise.

You can eat quite a lot of filling things on 1200 diet I’m doing it for the last few weeks , for example a egg on toast for breakfast 200 calories , banana for a snack 105 calories, chicken breast sliced into a stir fry for lunch with teriyaki sauce or what u like 300 calories , then for dinner roast chicken breast with 300grams of broccoli and coliflower also a chopped carrot with a little bit of gravy check the calories on it there are low ones 400 calories , then you still have 300 calories left for bits like milk in your coffee , fruit bits like that , you just have to find healthy food that is low in calorie that fills you up ! X

I am going to try a 1200 calorie diet. I am 56 , 260 lbs and 5’6 I want to lose 100 pounds. If it doesn’t work I will add some calories. When I get to my goal weight I will go to an Adkins low carbs more meat , vegetables and fruit. I am not going to see the inside of a restaurant for a year.
I have been working out for 2 years lost 8 pounds. My diet sucks.

I’m one of those people whose body has never responded well to CICO, possibly because I spent a good deal of time stressed by poverty and food insecurity.

Sometimes I will jump start weight loss with 1400 cal/day, then add about 1000 calories to that (2400 cal/day) as my activity levels increase. My ideal, if energy levels are good and no injuries, is to eat quality homemade food every 3 hours and get 1-2 hours of movement in daily, which for me is a combo of strength training, walking, low impact cardio, and yoga.

Everyone’s body works differently, so if 1200 cal works for you, cool! These are just some ideas for a different approach to try if you are feeling hungry or depleted.

I feel like 1200 calories isnt that bad. Im not hungry and I’m not exercising. Im on day 5. The only thing that would ruin this is that my bf is gonna get annoyed that I’m tracking calories

I saw a naturopath because I just couldn't lose weight Jo matter what I tried, and she told me some people just need to do 11- 1300 cals because their metabolism is so low. I was afraid of trying it because everyone demonized it- but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me and it's been totally fine.

At 1200Kcal/Day its best to make one big meal or 2 medium meals than having 4 minuscle meals that you get you hungry all day.

Very high protein and low carb will get you there the fastest! If you have a lot of weight to lose it’s a must to stay at 1200. Once you are at your goal weight then raise it up to 1500 to 2000
