I have very little economic knowledge, and if I'd studied it I'd probably know the answer to this question, but I have always wondered how exactly inflation increases prices.
What I mean is, I go to the store, and the thing I buy is more expensive. So the materials, labor, transportation, storage of that item have gotten more expensive, so the price had to increase. And the sourcing of the materials has gotten more expensive, and the pre-requisites for the sourcing of the materials, etc, down the line.
But what are the most basic, ground-level businesses that first increase their prices, and why do they need to do that in response to there being more money in the economy? What is the pressure there?
