Dancer in the Dark - Björk - Next To Last Song - Final - Ending [sub. español]

One day in screenwriting class we were giving examples of decent drama movies and tv series, I couldn't think of anything else than Dancer in the Dark, I finally swalloved the big lump in my throat and said it. The class were clueless as they stared at each other if anyone knew but the instructor and I couldn't talk for a while, our eyes got red and all. Damn, even remembering this movie hurts.

This is one of the worst films in the history of mankind since the law enforcement agency must have known Bill had been broke. I mean there lacks a logical coherence.

almost cried my eyes out watching this movie

At the moment this song didn't even started I was totally in tears, but when it was interrupted by her death I literally screamed out as a mad man

La primera vez q ví esta película fue como una peli de terror el final uff, un shock total

This is one of the cruelest endings I've ever seen. Whenever I remember this scene were everything just stops after she gets executed... ending everything she was and her dreamy, hopeful and beautiful singing... It really sticks with you.

This is one of the few movies where it feels like the main villain is the screenwriter for putting the character through so much misery. You want things to get better for her so much but you know that Lars is not gonna let that happen.

This movie traumatized me as a child...

This movie never left my mind, it has more then 20 years. Im finishing law school now. Selma could be saved.
Thesis of impossible crime. She was blind, impossible to shot bill by herself. The gun was his. Bill commited suicide and forced Selma to assist him in order to retrieve her money he stolen. The money she spent a lifetime joining to make the surgery of her son to save him of same fate blindness like her own. That's what I'll try to convince the juri. Specilly if there were mothers among them. My veredict is not guilty

I hadn't seen this movie, I just happened upon the films Wikipedia as a Bjork fan. Thought I'd check out a scene of the movie. I was so wrapped up in listening to the lovely sad song she was singing that when she dropped, I was so scared I literally said "Oh my god!"

I shouldn't have recommended this to my friends for our weekly movie to watch. Not because it's sad, but it's because Lars' work is just wasted to Björk mistreatment on the set. Fuck.

Great songs but the film is just heavy-handed propaganda. All the Americans are portrayed as either unfeeling selfish monsters or idiots whilst Bjork the commie is innocent to the point of childishness. And I'm not some "yee-haw capitalism" type either.

The ending is so tragic. She didnt even finish the song.

Selma says she leaves the theater at the second to last song so the film can live on in her memory. This is Lars von Trier punishing the viewer for not stopping the film before this ending and pretending that somehow Selma wasn't hanged and got to live on. The "... Its only the last song if we let it be " further solidifies this. We let this be the last song before she died. Rather genius honestly.

Throughout the film, her entry into the musical world is triggered by sound, any random sound or beat. In this scene, there is no sound so she uses her own heartbeat for one last song. And she is killed mid song, so the song never really ends.
