The Metroid Prime and Halo comparison has been alive for a long time - especially since the first game of each came out a year apart. It's easy to understand why you'd make that connection, they are very visually similar, but the experience of playing them is pretty polar opposite. Halo is going into linear missions to shoot your way from point A to B. Prime isn't really like that at all. Honestly, there's not much to compare it to. Closest I could think of is like Dark Souls or Outer Wilds.
Prime 1 and 2 are games where you wonder around a planet aimlessly, getting upgrades so that you can then go down paths you couldn't before. That's the general vibe, and it's a lot calmer and more puzzle driven than most FPS games. Really, the shooting is mostly just kinda there. Besides for a bunch of cool bosses, the combat barely matters, despite it also being unique. It's really about figuring the world out. I feel like if Pikmin is your thing, I'd sell Metroid Prime as also being a game where you explore cool natural environments to really serene music while having to use your brain.
Prime 4's trailer did a great job selling itself to people who understood what they were seeing, but a bad job selling what Metroid Prime actually is. I saw some people complaining that the combat looks dull or that it's not that visually impressive - which is crazy to me, because I don't think any of that matters. The excitement isn't coming from it having the flashiest gunplay, it's from the fact that nothing exists like those games.
To answer a question you asked - no, you don't gotta play the other games most likely. The games are self contained and more lore-driven than story driven. Prime 3 edged more into being a linear story but I don't know if this one is gonna follow in that - it wasn't as well received. Still, I recommend playing Prime Remastered anyway if you're curious about it - it is one of my favorite games. 2 is also incredible. But if you want to just jump into 4 it's probably not gonna be a problem.
Always cool to see people interested in the Metroid franchise. I’m sure you’ll be able to get into Prime 4 without playing the other games but it is important to note that Metroid is one of Nintendo’s only franchises with a coherent story and lore between each game. So while Prime 4 is the start of a new story arc, we’ve already seen toooons of lore references to the previous games already. Just important to keep in mind imo.
ОтветитьYou should play Metroid Prime Remastered so you have idea how awesome this serie is.
I dont play FPS games at all. But Prime is more .....FPA(dventure) .
Metroid Prime is top 20 best games of ALL TIME (Metacritics).
Yes, I highly suggest u play any metroid game. Truly a great series.
ОтветитьThe Prime games are a lot of fun. So far I’ve just played a good chunk of 1’s remaster, and the multiplayer of 2 with my friends/cousins. Let’s hope that Prime 4 has a fun multiplayer mode (too bad Prime 2’s multiplayer didn’t have online functionality. There’s this mod for Halo 2 on MCC that ports over Prime 2’s multiplayer maps. They work surprisingly well, and the art style doesn’t clash too much. The guy porting them hasn’t finished yet).
You mentioned liking Halo in this video. Have you seen Halo 2’s INSANE original ending? This cool channel C3Sabertooth that animated 2’s storyboards. They’re pretty crazy. Not going to spoil anything, but I will say that Truth’s plan actually made perfect sense in the original ending. It also would’ve tied into the “big reveal” about what Bungie had planned for the Forerunners’ “connection” with humanity. Let’s just say he actually had a reason to plug his own empire into civil war and kill off the other two hierarchs.
