Here's a tip from a long-time player about that "melee-bost"... if you're playing on permadeath mode, fall damage can be your worst enemy, so be very careful and never get complacent about boosting around (especially in mountainous/hilly areas), or it WILL be the death of you.

i just started (at about 20 hours played) i had a random player give me some loot worth about 6 million units but other than that i have no idea how to make units efficiently. Now i can farm missions thanks to this video but does anyone else know of any other methods to earn units in larger quantities or does it just take a lot of time to do?

Set up mining units on deposits with a save beacon next to it so you dont have to go running all over the planet mining.

For the landing thrusters. Get yourself the Upgrade from the Multiplayer Hub where you get all the advanced upgrades from.
It will automatically recover energy, and if combined one that reduces the thruster cost, you will nearly never see yourself having to refill it up.

There is no more effective way to get free fuel.

If you are playing a game, you have nothing but time. So, whining about something taking time is silly. If you didn't have time you'd not be playing.

Pro tip!!
You can go to an outlaw station and buy suspicious packets and suspicious tech for units. Open them and then sell them for nanites. 10 k nanites in just a few outlaw stations.

Not a Pro, but Launch fuel is more efficient if you buy metal plates and Dihydrogen jelly and break it down to make launch fuel in Permadeath. Way cheaper.

Pro Tip: There is no shame in adjusting the difficulty settings to suit your playstyle and you still get achievements. Want to run and rocket boost to your heart's content without worrying about Life Support? Choose that feature under custom difficult. Once I found out I could make a mix of Normal and Relaxed difficulty I have had so much more enjoyment with the game because I have have to difficulty of aspects I enjoy and less difficult for the ones I don't.

Easy money for me is farming dissonance ships. Put a save beacon at a dissonance spike scanner( the one that unlocks a gun)
Then farm till I get my s class or a bunch of units and inventory upgrades.

This is a great video! I've logged in over 800hrs in NMS, and had accepted the grindy nature as part of the game a long time ago. I knew many of these, and they were excellently explained. A few were new to me and give me more of an option to grind or not to grind...and I will offer a tip of my own. Go to a good economy Vy'keen system and sit in the space station until an A class fighter shows up. Buy it and scrap it. You will need about 20mil units to do this reliably and six or so empty slots in your inventory. This is the best way I've found to convert cash into nanites, as well as to reliably get storage upgrades to your ship (which are hard to find otherwise). The net loss in cash is about 2mil (after selling the scrap), but the gain of 1, 400 nanites and a ship storage upgrade make it worth it. Also, as the rewards are procedurally rolled up, I've actually made a cash profit in doing this. Happy harvesting!

There are my current top 5 pro tips: I play NMS since four years.

- instead of warping with your ship, use your freighter, fully kitted out, it has way more jump distance and efficiency. PLUS you have the planet scanner room, which discovers all planets at once. Build it as close to the command room as possible for quick access. This one saved me lots of time, when looking for nice planets. I found some really nice paradise planets in no time.

- Shooting the photon cannon: instead of holding down the trigger/mouse button, click it fast. The heat level will not fill up, but the fire rate will stay at 0. Or shoot in tiny bursts.

- Most of the sentinel interceptor tech can be charged with radiant shards: they are super easy to collect. Same with pugneum.

- The sentinel weapon upgrade only work with the Boltcaster. With an MT from harmonic camp or atlantic monolith's purple cloud, Boltcaster and the upgrades combined, you can build the ultimate weapon and sentinels will become small game.

- You can "unlock" more colours for the wooden base panels by choosing a prefab, setting the color, go back to the selection and choose a wooden panel. Since i love base cooperative building with my family, it's one of my favourite tricks.

- (okay this one has been mentioned in other comments, but here again:)Turbo Mining essentials: Instead of using mining beams, hover with your ship and shoot at the ground. Especially on planets covered with many tiny rocks and plants, this one will fill up stacks in a minute.

- Another more advanced bonus tip for galaxy interlopers: There are four different types of galaxies, which influence planet generation. if you like paradise and earthlike planets, go to a "Lush" galaxy. I chose the 239th Galaxy, because it has the best chace for rare paradise planets, some are really nice, for example ones with white grass or colour shifting terrain. If you don't want to jump 239 times, you can use a player service called starcabs. It's ran by other players which have a base in each galaxy and can teleport you there using the anomaly team warp.

The more species of animal on a planet, the more nanites you get as a completion bonus.

This means you can get a quick bonus from messed up planets with one lifeform type or a huge bonus by landing next to water on a flourishing planet and quickly scanning everything - need to have luck that one of them isn't only found in a certain hemisphere though. Good for combining with Uranium harvesting runs early game so you can get scanner upgrades.

Alternately, since the game has a hefty FPS tax the moment one or more other players appear on screen, unless you are intending on playing with a group of friends, just disable multiplayer completely. There are tons of people who share their bases and such globally, so you will still encounter plenty of those in the universe.

My pro tip: Increasing Terrain Manipulator size ('T' on PC) is great for quickly creating a tunnel or getting loads of Silicate Powder to recharge (also note that Magnetized Ferrite is 10x more efficient per unit at recharging than Silicate or Ferrite Dust). Decreasing it ('R' on PC) is awesome for gathering many more resources from a mining deposit. It's slower, but I usually only have to do it once per resource. As noted in the video, buying is much more efficient, but in the early game with very little money, decreasing the size and spending a couple of minutes to get more than you need is worth it.

I've been playing No Man's Sky for two years and know all this just from experience. This game is a damn drug.

The recipe tip is probably the most difficult to discover, but it is also the most important. Basically the general rule is that you can get anything in some way from very easy to find basic materials.

Also I would like to add an additional tip: the space anomaly portal leads to very nice player bases, which are located on highly populated planets. Numerous farms have been built on these planets, and by visiting them you can obtain thousands of units of resources at no cost, without any effort, even before unlocking the planetary portals. In general, another good rule is that unity is strength: anything you create can also be useful for other players.

@RSauce24
@RSauce24 - 24.12.2023 17:47

Unless you are "end game" able to craft just about anything, buy everything is not a good tip. Maybe looms, more higher end parts you don't want to craft. But you'd save millions mining the stuff you can mine. And that becomes pretty important for buying fleet ships and a personal ship you might come across.

My best tip in terms of building base
For materials you can wait for pilots at the station and buy their ferrite
super cheap and it only takes you like 5-10 mins to get 10k+ ferrite
dont waste your time mining it, its not worth your time
