I think, even though it sounds very cool, I think it would be extremely difficult for Sadness to be released now, since the company that worked on it has now closed and there’s a very good possibility of conflicting deadlines, one of the main reasons the game was cancelled.

Thankfully, Star Fox 2 was finally released the following year after this video, on the Super Nintendo Mini. It is also playable on the Switch.

Another game I can think of is the Sega Genesis port of Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, which was specifically intended to be released in North America. It was even advertised in several gaming magazines, but when Taito closed its US office, the game was cancelled. There is a short prototype of the game that exists, showcasing it in an early, very buggy state. I think this one in particular is quite interesting because it likely would have been one of the only JRPGs to be released for both the SNES and Genesis.

I'm 7 years late, but some gameplay elements in Plague Tales resembles the Sadness trailer (Using the torch to scare off rats, the woman leading her son) I wonder if Plague Tales is a spiritual successor of some sort? Maybe someone on the team got tired of waiting for Sadness and just made their own game lol

Honestly the first time I've heard of this year's ago, I was bummed that they cancelled it. It would be pretty neat to have Buzz Monkey finish the South Park game. Honestly like seeing them make 3D games of them. Like, they try something different like making it an adventure game, unlike the Stick Of Truth or Fractured But Whole, having no plot but just doing random puzzle levels, just like how the game was originally gonna be
